At Six Degrees we’re friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about delivering secure technology that makes a difference for our customers. Check out these profiles to learn a little more about some of our people.
What have you learned from your being part of the business?
By working together as a team, there’s very little that can’t be achieved.
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to join us?
If you have the drive to transform and passion to continuously improve service this is the company for you.
If we held a Six Degrees talent show, what talent would you showcase?
Well, it won’t be singing after being kicked off the karaoke at my last attempt. If anyone remembers the space hopper, a 100-meter space hopper race would be the ultimate event for me.
What do you enjoy about working here?
I love the company’s culture and how you always feel included and supported. I appreciate the freedom you are given to speak your mind and suggest new ideas. And I appreciate how teams/people are recognised for their hard work and effort.
What is the most exciting things you’ve done at Six Degrees?
I am proud to have helped implement some positive and lasting changes within the SOC operations.
Be yourself, acknowledge what an MSSP is about, take on objectives willingly, and never be shy to ask for guidance.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A pilot. My high school maths wasn’t good enough to join the air force pilot training scheme, so I went to college. At college I was encouraged to join an apprenticeship scheme and was sent to college to study an electrical engineering degree. I excelled and was sent for further education to get my diploma.
I have built a robust customer service framework with a proven continual improvement system. This is constantly evolving and improving.
I’d have to build the set – my DIY skills are second to none.
What have you learned from your being part of Six Degrees?
Six Degrees has taught me a huge amount about the industry, technology, and myself. I’ve been able to hone my skills in a number of areas and enjoy putting this to use every day.
I enjoy the challenge that Six Degrees brings and with it the rewards and recognition when we do a great job. I especially enjoy meeting and communicating with our clients.
Embrace change, take ownership, and don’t be afraid to get involved as you might be surprised what you have to offer.
Why did you join Six Degrees?
Good culture and the progression opportunities that are available for you develop and progress within your career.
It’s a great company to work for, and there are A LOT of opportunities for you to progress and develop your career.
I can do kick ups with a football whilst sitting down on the floor.
What’s the most exciting things you’ve done at Six Degrees?
The most exciting aspect is being at the front-line of contributing to critical security incidents. Working with SOC sub-teams has allowed me to acquire new skills, responsibilities and knowledge. One highlight at the business has been the SOC socials, where we unwind with fun activities.
I have learnt that it’s the communication, collaboration and support from different teams that makes a business thrive. I’ve also gained insight into the processes that keep it running and the role each team plays in driving success.
For the Six Degrees talent show, I would impress the people with some impressive card tricks, something I have been learning and perfecting since I was 14.
When I was a kid, I changed my mind every other day. As I grew older, I realised that I enjoyed politics, but I was more interested in the behind-the-scenes workings and the technical aspects.
Being part of the business has taught me the importance of clear communication and effective teamwork. When we work together, combining our specific knowledge and different perspectives, we can tackle challenges more efficiently and solve problems pragmatically.
Six Degrees is full of nice, approachable people who are always happy to help. New starters should feel comfortable asking questions as they get to know our business.
How did you get to where you are today?
The usual route for entry into cyber security: professional musician, then police officer, then cyber. Whilst in the police I noticed a team where I worked in Special Branch/Counter Terrorism that did digital forensics. There were only three of them and they seemed to spend most of their time training in America, so I thought ‘I’ll have some of that’…
I’d hoped (and was right) that I could help to shape the cyber consultancy offerings for our clients to help secure their businesses.
I’ve applied my pilot training for turbulence to this: don’t overreact to every bump and jolt or you’ll lose control of the plane. Keep it steady and everything will smooth out.
That contracts are key! Understanding the importance of well-drafted contracts cannot be overstated. We need to ensure we have the relevant documentation in place so that everyone knows their roles and obligations (whether that be a client or supplier) and it then (hopefully!) assists with keeping everyone on the same page and reduces conflict.
I was fortunate enough to be involved in the corporate restructuring of the company which was a new area for me and one that I learned lots from! These opportunities are few and far between so the experience was really valuable to me.
What are you waiting for?!? If you want to get stuck in and be able to feel that you’re making a difference to a business then Six Degrees is right for you!
Sounds typical, but genuinely a footballer for Arsenal Football Club. That didn’t work out obviously, but I couldn’t be happier being here at Six Degrees.
Six Degrees felt like home the second I had my first interview with them. I remember asking what it was like to work for Six Degrees and I could tell by the passion in which the way the questioned was answered that I would love the opportunity to be a part of this business and their journey.
Six Degrees are like your second family. You spend a lot of your time with the great people here and you really feel like part of a team. One thing I’ve learned is that everyone here wants you to excel and you will be given the required support and opportunities.
History teacher – it was a subject at school that I loved and wanted to showcase it to students to get them as passionate about it as I am!
A company I worked for at the time used various services provided by Six Degrees and provided us with an excellent service so I wanted to be a part of that.
I am a much more well rounded person in our industry now. Before I was very much an operations-focused SDM; I now have a greater understanding of multiple technologies and other functions within an organisation which help it to be successful.
I fell into recruitment after a few years of working in hospitality. My experience, hard work, support from great managers, and the opportunities I have had at Six Degrees have got me to where I am today.
What do you enjoy about working at Six Degrees?
My team, the wonderful managers I have had, and whenever I get a chance to make a difference to someone’s life and career.
You cannot be someone who is resistant to change. In our industry change is constant.
I joined for the people. Everyone I have worked with and continue to work with shares a drive and enthusiasm to be successful together.
There is always someone wanting to help you and share their knowledge with you. I wouldn’t be in the position I am today if it wasn’t for those around me supporting and teaching me. The biggest lesson I learnt was “Don’t be afraid to ask”.
Being part of the team that implemented our new CRM, whilst not breaking anything! It was a real game changer for our business and something I am really proud to have been a part of.
Fireman, soldier, secret agent—I had an active imagination! Growing up in a family with a rich military and public service heritage, this naturally reflected on my choices.
Cringworthy advice but be yourself, don’t tell us what you think we want to hear but tell us about you, what drives you, what you know, and how you can add to our team. The world would be boring if we were all the same, so bringing ‘different’ to the team is always a good thing.
As an introvert the idea of a talent show is my worst nightmare! If you want to find me outside of work, bring a mountain bike and helmet and let’s find a big hill in Wales to ride down together. Ear-to-ear grins guaranteed.
In return for the passion our people bring to everything they do, we want them to enjoy a range of benefits that enrich their lives. We are a Real Living Wage employer, and through our additional employee benefits we feel we’ve got something that will help everybody live their best life.
